When you get to meet with a financial advisor, they will ask you all sorts of questions about your various accounts and your holdings at other institutions (if you have any)
This is not only because they want you to bring the money that you hold elsewhere to their firm but also because they need to have a full picture of where you currently are financially so that they can make the best recommendations suited to your personal needs.
They’ll need to know your assets from your debts, the type of occupation you currently hold, how much you earn etc…
Now for those of you who would rather look after their own finances, they will have to exercise the same due diligence on their own finances. This can be a pain if you hold accounts (current, savings, brokerage etc…) at various institutions (since I’m sure you shop around for best rates of return and that your firm probably doesn’t necessarily have the best everything).
Having to go online to log on to various different websites to get a picture of where you are financially at any one time is truly tedious. Having to physically go to various banks, and stand in line to enquire about your accounts is even worse.
Fortunately, this is when mint.com have come up with this wonderful app that will make your life so much easier.
You get to see all your accounts on one application (on your PC, your favorite tablet or even smartphone)
Not only that but no other personal finance app comes close to this one when it comes to glancing at your finances at the tip of your fingers.
You can have an overview of all your accounts (current, savings, TFSAs, RSPs, RESPs, brokerage etc…), your cash flow (money that’s coming in against money that’s coming out) and you even get alerts when your accounts are low so that you avoid going overdrawn and pay fees.
The app will also alert you of any fee that has been taken from your accounts as well as any unusual or big transaction.
Another great feature (as if that wasn’t good enough), is that the app recommends you ways to save money by advertising credit cards with a lower rate or other accounts that could save you money. For those who do own a credit card, getting one with a lower rate is a good thing if you struggle with your monthly repayments.
All in all, this is a must app for those who have many accounts to look at and look after, because if you truly want to look after your finances, you’ll eventually end up owning many accounts (more on this point later on this blog…)
This app gives you a great overview of where you are right now.
